Abstract: This talk aims to give an introduction to teleparallelism and to present some recent insights on the topic. Apart from delving into the concept of teleparallelism, I will discuss general relativity and the (non)importance of boundary terms, to then show that teleparallelism allows us to reformulate general relativity in terms of torsion and/or non-metricity instead of curvature. From this formulation there are many ways for which one can depart from general relativity and look at modified theories of gravity. In this context, I will discuss symmetries and how they can be used to simplify calculations and to count the number of degrees of freedom in the theories. I will further argue that teleparallelism can be useful to solve theoretical and/or observational problems.
